Become An Instructor
Thank you for your interest in becoming an instructor with UNC STB! All of the information you need to become an instructor can be found on this page. Please read all of the steps on this page before contacting our team about becoming an instructor.
STEP ONE: Take a STB class at UNC! You may attend one of our open classes or you can request a class. Please approach one of the instructors at the beginning or end of the class to let them know that you are interested in becoming an instructor.
STEP TWO: Determine eligibility to be a lead instructor or an associate instructor.
There are two tiers of instructors: lead instructor and associated instructor. Please read the information below and check out the Instructors Contact page before contacting UNC STB about your interest in becoming an instructor. Please note that you must have graduated or be currently enrolled in one of the approved disciplines to become an instructor! Approved disciplines are listed below but you must check https://www.stopthebleed.org/ for the most up-to-date list.
Approved Disciplines
MD, DO, RN, CRNA, NP, PA, DDS, DMD, DVM, PharmD, Pharmacist, LVN, LPN, RD, RT, PT, OT, DCM, DPM Paramedic, EMT, EMR/First Responder, Sworn Law Enforcement Officer, Ski Patrol, Athletic Trainer, TCCC-MP Instructor (both actively practicing and retired Instructors are eligible to be instructors), and TECC Instructor
Lead Instructors
A lead instructor can independently direct a Stop the BleedĀ® course assisted by other instructors or associate instructors.
Associate Instructors
The associate instructor may teach in a course under the direct supervision of a Bleeding Control instructor. Associate instructors are identified by those that are already enrolled as a student in the approved categories. When an associate instructor graduates or gains certification in their discipline, they will be transitioned into this role directly without having to repeat the instructor course.
STEP THREE: Once you have attended a STB class and determined that you are eligible to serve as a lead instructor or associate instructor then you can register as a new instructor on bleedingcontrol.org. Once you receive the registration confirmation email, verify that you can access the instructor portal on www.bleedingcontrol.org. We will ask that you take a screenshot of your instructor portal to upload to our instructor onboarding form. Please give STB 3 – 4 days to get back to you and do not complete our onboarding form until you have heard back from them. STB Instructor PortalĀ
STEP FOUR: Complete our instructor onboarding form and wait for someone from our team to contact you. We will set up a meeting to discuss next steps with you and to determine if you are a good fit for our team. UNC Instructor Onboarding Form
STEP FIVE: Teach at least one class as a secondary instructor – you will assist participants with hands-on skills practice and will observe a more experienced instructor lead the course. You must be approved by a current lead instructor before you are allowed to proceed to step six.
STEP SIX: Congratulations! You are now prepared to offer STB classes at UNC!
If you are a returning instructor and would like to teach classes in the upcoming semester please fill out this form! UNC STB Returning Instructors
